Are you tired of waiting around for something good to happen? Want to conjure a “thing” out of nothing (in spite of Modest Mouse)? Have an idea for a website but need the extra support/know-how to get it off the ground? Well, look no further. Because:
This blog series will detail every–and I mean every–step I will be taking in creating my own website. You’ll learn through my suffering. If I scratch my elbow, you’ll know about it. We’ll cry together, hug together, bake cake together, etc.
I hope you’re excited. I know I’m not.
Let’s start with some very minimal prerequisites for participation. I’ll do this quasi-Descartes style:
First, you need to know what a computer is. And, perhaps more importantly, you’ll need a computer of your own on which you’ll be doing and saving all of your precious work.
Second, you need to understand some html, javascript, and css. The more, the better. If you don’t know any html, javascript, or css, I’ll try my best to supplement the series with links to more fundamental content. So, for example, if you’ve never played with (or bowed down to) jQuery, I’ll link to it–strictly for pedagogical reasons–and you’ll probably have to spend a couple hours (or days?) getting comfortable with the technology.
Third, you have to be able to type. I love input. If you don’t give me any input, I may be singlehandedly destroying the brains of all the future MVC’ers that consume my forthcoming nonsense. Plus, as an added benefit, it’ll help me improve the website that I’m conjuring from the ether (more on what the website is in a future, magical post). So, please, please, if you have anything to add, don’t be afraid to chime in. I’m listening intently.
Fourth, and most importantly: you have to be willing to stick with it. This series will be running the proverbial gamut–from MVC to jQuery to VS AddIns to Repositories to SEO to Business Plans to Vanessa Fox (I love me some Vanessa Fox). If you stick with it (and if I stick with it [please force me]), you’ll surely know something about something that’s related to something (very specific, I know) that you didn’t know squat about before. At the very least, if you’re ever on Jeopardy, you’ll kick some ass when the “How To Avoid Your Wife and Get On With Your Dreams” category pops up. It always does…
Alright, let’s get started!
